Accessible E-learning
By Casey |
The knowledge gap that my project addresses is that County of Monterey employees may not be aware of up-to-date web accessibility standards for accessibility compliance in e-learning courses. The County of Monterey creates training across its departments, and due to COVID-19, likely more training will be created for delivery in an online environment than previously. My project deliverable is an online learning module that provides an overview on how to ensure that an e-learning course adheres to the latest accessibility standards. Currently, the County of Monterey already tries to ensure that they meet accessibility standards on their primary website and already has existing guidelines on the topics of reasonable accommodation and accessibility, while my module provides information about how to ensure that an e-learning course on a Learning Management System (LMS) follows the accessibility standards mandated by Section 508 (the Rehabilitation Act of 1973), and suggested by WCAG 2.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), Level AA.
The target users of this course are County of Monterey employees across all County of Monterey departments, and specifically Learning Management System Coordinators and Course Sponsors within these departments.
My final product is an hour-long learning module and two job aids that will help County of Monterey employees tasked with creation/review of online courses. This learning module discusses best practices for employees to use during e-learning creation.
This course has been delivered to the County of Monterey HR Department and Learning Management System Coordinators and Course Sponsors in other County of Monterey departments. I have assessed participants on their ability to understand how to create e-learning for all audiences upon their completion of this course.
